Reading Journal Posts (INS Assignments)

Your major task for the journal is to post 6 responses to your blog.
  • 2 from the beginning
  • 2 from the middle
  • 2 from the end
For each you will choose one of the following questions (you can't choose a question more than once):

  • what is the setting of the novel?  is the setting important or could the novel happen anywhere?  why?  would it change the plot?
  • describe a problem faced by the main character.  explain how the main character deals with the problem.  make a personal connection to this (either your own experience or that of someone you know)
  • write down a passage that appeals to you and describe why?  does it make more of an impact on your understanding of the book or does it make more of a personal impact?
  • if you had to choose one of the characters to be your friend, who would it be and why?  are they like a friend you have now or have had in the past?
  • is there a message or main theme you see emerging?  what is it and how is it shown?
  • choose a character who is starting to change and explain how the change is being made and what purpose it serves.
  • Write your opinion of a character's action or reaction.  Do you think it was the appropriate course of action and would you have done the same?
  • Make a text to text connection using specific examples and detailed explanation.
  • Make a text to world connection using specific examples and detailed explanation.
In each journal response you must include the following:

1.  a quote (with the page number) that is related to the question you've chosen
2.  at least 250 words

Friday Reading Quote

"Reading a book is like re-writing it for yourself. You bring to a novel, anything you read, all your experience of the world. You bring your history and you read it in your own terms."
Angela Carter

Remember this when you read your novel.  Be an active reader and make connections between the book and your experiences!!

Remember to leave a comment on the April 12 post on my blog with your name and the URL for your blog!

Have a good weekend!
